Discord Font Styling Guide
Discord supports Unicode text in server names, channel names, nicknames, and messages. However, there are character limits and markdown interactions to consider.
Character Limits
Server names: Up to 100 characters. This gives you plenty of room for decorative fonts and symbols. Script or fraktur fonts work well for community servers, while bold sans-serif looks professional for business servers.
Channel names: Limited to 32 characters. Keep it short and readable. Monospace or small caps work best — they're clear even when channel names are truncated in the sidebar.
Nicknames: Up to 32 characters per server. Use fancy fonts to stand out in member lists. Circled letters or regional indicators (🇭🇪🇱🇱🇴) create a unique look.
Discord Markdown vs Unicode Fancy Text
Discord's built-in markdown (bold with **, italic with *) only works in messages, not in server/channel names or nicknames. For those, you need Unicode fancy text. However, be aware that combining both in messages can cause issues — Discord may not parse markdown correctly if the text contains many combining characters.
Role Name Styling
Role names support Unicode and have a 100-character limit. Use fancy fonts to make important roles stand out. Bold or fraktur for admin roles, script for special member roles. This creates visual hierarchy in the member list.
Best Practices
Don't overdo it — a server with every name in heavy glitch text is hard to navigate. Use fancy fonts strategically for emphasis, not everywhere. Test your styled names on mobile before committing, as some fonts render differently on small screens.
